PLACES TO VISIT
Marina di Carrara is located in Tuscany 30 minutes - 1 hour far from the beautiful Pisa, Florence, and and many other artistic and historical places to visit.
FLORENCE
Florence attracts a high proportion of international travelers to Italy. The city is an active centre of art and culture, and organizes periodical exhibitions and art festivals.
Florence is called the capital of arts. From the 13th to the 16th century it was a seemingly endless source of creative masterpieces and Italian genius.
The first traces of civilization in the Arno valley, where the city of Florence now stands, date back to the Villanovan period (Iron Age). The Etruscans later ruled over the area; their domination persisted for several centuries, until they were eventually conquered by the Romans who founded a "municipium" with the auspicious name of 'Florentia', with the aim of guarding the important ford over the Arno.
PISA
Pisa plays a main role from an artistic point of view: here the renawal in architecture, in sculpture and painting anticipate the florentine movement of the renaissance: the famous Leaning tower of Pisa, castles, churches, monasteries, all scattered on the top of hills along the rivers and in the ancient streets. The natural and environmental heritage is particularly attractive: in the area you can visit the Natural Park of Migliarino- San Rosssore, Massaciuccoli, the Pisano Mountain, the Hills, the Coastline at Marina di Vecchiano, Marina di Pisa and Tirrenia The thermal baths are an attractive proposal too: Casciana Terme, Larderello, San Giuliano and Uliveto Terme. In its streets, squares, churches and palaces, Volterra maintains elements characteristic of different historical periods: from the Etruscans to the Romans from the Middle Age to the 18th century. LUCCA
Imagine a beautiful little Tuscan town protected by massively thick 16th-century walls, featuring some of Italy's finest medieval and Renaissance architecture, superb dining, antique markets, classical and rock music festivals, easy access to stunning nearby villas in the surrounding hills and with endless beaches less than half an hour away. Lucca is one of Tuscany's best-kept secrets.
A wealthy and colorful town that draws a more discerning tourist than Florence or Pisa, it is sufficiently off the beaten track to have kept its civility and reserve. Lucca is a city of merchants who know how to woo the visitor and the shopper, but the pace of life varies between slow and slower.
The villas and farmhouses within
Lucca has one particularly stunning feature - ancient ramparts that ring the old city. The inhabitants built these brick walls in the 16th century for defense. Today, walk (or bike) around the city on the wide shaded walkways atop the walls. If that doesn't tire you out, climb up the Torre Guinigi - the
